I was born and raised in New York as were my parents. Playing in the ocean and swimming were a significant and positive part of my life and looking back I can see that eventually it led me to find the awesome island of Maui. I left New York to continue my journey and eventually settled down for a while in Charlottesville, Virginia, where I studied Psychology and Sociology at The University of Virginia. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. By this time I was a single mom with 2 children so I was really determined and it was quite a challenge.
I completed my graduate work at Virginia Commonwealth University, also known as The Medical College of Virginia. My internship was working in the hospital with HIV/AIDS patients and their families in an urban setting and also visiting patients and providing services in their homes in a rural setting. I graduated there with a Masters of Social Work. It was very exciting to hear my children shout, “way to go Mom” as I accepted my diploma.
After graduating I moved my family out west to be closer to two of my siblings that had relocated there. I began working for Hospice in a beautiful rural community in the Sierra foothills. This was an amazing teacher for me, as I provided services to terminally ill patients and their families and loved ones. I also facilitated bereavement support groups for loved ones coping with a death. After 6 years with hospice I relocated to our beautiful island of Maui in the Hawaiian Islands, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This has been my home since 2001.
After working with the Maui Department of Education for one year at a middle school I decided to take a position at the Community Clinic of Maui (now known as Malama I Ke Ola Health Center), which was more consistent with my background and skills though I thoroughly enjoyed working with the students- another unforgettable experience. At the clinic I provided mental health services for adult patients for 6 years working directly with physicians and their team in order to address depression, anxiety or other mental health issues and crises- a holistic approach to treatment in a medical health center. This indeed was a rare experience.
Every agency where I worked gave me the opportunity to receive an outstanding first-rate experience, that helped me continue to develop the skills necessary to assist clients in identifying what they need to feel more passion in their lives and more clarity about how to capture that passion.
In 2007 I opened up my private practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Sex Therapist. I provide services for individuals and families, as well as couples. Note, In addition to married couples and couples living together in a long-term relationship or couples that are dating, a couple seeking counseling can also include a mother/daughter, a mother/son, a father/daughter, a father/son or even friends or co-workers.
I live in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii with my partner, my Mom and a few furry four legged friends. I have two amazing daughters and a beautiful grandson. In my private life, I enjoy spending time with my family as well as swimming, snorkeling, whale watching, scuba diving, hiking, working out, eating healthy, reading and researching and watching the night sky.
